Digital Museum Content
Because we have a limited amount of artifacts, the Historical Society has established digital displays, another way of telling our story.
Native American History
We begin with the first stories of the land that would become Pulaski County, our Native American history. We begin with the Ice Age and move through all eras that moved the Native population from one part of the continent to the other. Eventually, Potowatomi would populate our area, and, of course, be forcibly removed.
Winamac Town Park
Let’s spend a little bit of time at the Winamac Town Park. We have few historical references to Native American villages in the county, but we know this area, where now the town park is situated, was used as fishing and hunting grounds.
Casimir Pulaski
We go next to the eponymous Casimer Pulaski. The painting to the left depicts General Washington with several of his generals, including Pulaski, but this gathering never actually took place.
Historic Places
We’ll take a look at some landmark sites around the county. The photo to the right is the “calaboose” in Medaryville.
Mastodons
We have additional ancient history, dug up from the swamps of the county. Mastodons – many years ago – were prevelant in this area.
Military Service
The county has a proud history of military service. To the right is a montage of photos of Harry H. Pattison, a native of Rich Grove Township who served in the Spanish American War and WWI, later serving as a diplomat in Japan.
Maps and Markers
A variety of maps and markers are available for you to study.
